Six Flags is expanding its 2026 Halloween season with a new licensed maze. Jason: Blood Reign is announced for Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, Kings Island in Ohio and Carowinds on the North Carolina–South Carolina border. The announcement refers to Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise. No story, concept art or site-specific scenes for the maze have been released so far.
That is the central news item in ThemePark-Central’s report. The wider context matters too: Fright Fest is not one identical programme shared by every park. Dates, day-to-day offerings, shows and maze access are set locally.
Three parks, one new horror licence
The new maze is announced for Great Adventure, Kings Island and Carowinds. Kings Island’s official PR communication explicitly calls it a new addition to its Halloween Haunt. Trade coverage lists the same attraction for all three locations. What visitors will actually encounter in each house remains open: there is no confirmed narrative, layout or indication that the three versions will be identical.
The announcement is still notable for the haunt industry. After the Six Flags–Cedar Fair merger, one horror licence is being used at a former Six Flags park and two former Cedar Fair parks at the same time. A shared brand does not guarantee a shared creative execution. The individual park pages and programme guides will show how substantial each maze is and which other formats it is paired with.
Fright Fest opens on different dates by park
Several major Six Flags locations have already published their 2026 season windows:
- Six Flags Great Adventure, New Jersey: select nights from 18 September to 1 November 2026.
- Six Flags Magic Mountain, California: select nights from 18 September to 1 November 2026.
- Six Flags Great America, Illinois: select nights from 19 September to 1 November 2026.
- Six Flags Over Texas: from 12 September to 1 November 2026.
- Six Flags New England, Massachusetts: select nights from 26 September to 1 November 2026.
These dates do not mean that Jason: Blood Reign will appear at all of those parks. They simply show how the company is staggering its Halloween events across the autumn. Anyone travelling specifically for Jason needs to choose one of the three announced locations and check that park’s calendar again shortly before visiting.
Admission does not automatically include maze access
At many Fright Fest events, scare zones, live entertainment and nighttime rides are part of the general park offer. Haunted mazes, by contrast, are often premium attractions. Great Adventure, Great America and New England explicitly state that a separate Haunted Attractions Pass is required. Prices and exact products can vary by park and date.
That distinction is important for visitors: a theme-park Halloween event can combine open-access atmosphere with paid walk-through attractions. A standard day ticket is therefore not a reliable promise of access to a particular maze.
Programme status: many details are still open
There are also individual confirmed programme points beyond the Jason announcement. Great Adventure, for example, is bringing back the stage show Dead Man’s Party. Six Flags Over Texas has announced new exclusive Fright Fest entertainment on select dates. Complete line-ups — especially mazes, scare zones, shows and event nights — have not yet been published for several parks.
Offers from 2025 cannot automatically be carried forward. An attraction that used a different horror licence last year is not confirmation for 2026. This is particularly relevant for Magic Mountain: the park lists dates and the Fright Fest format, but has not yet published a complete 2026 maze and scare-zone line-up.
What this means for scare actors and haunt creatives
The Jason maze is above all a signal that major theme-park haunts are continuing to work with recognisable horror figures. A licence creates instant recognition. For performers and creative teams, it also creates a clear challenge: the character has to read in seconds without becoming a simple film imitation.
Whether Jason: Blood Reign finds that balance through pacing, scenic design, sound or cast direction cannot be judged yet. That will be the key point to watch when official previews arrive or the maze opens.

Research: 19 August 2026. The Jason announcement was cross-checked against Kings Island communication and consistent trade reporting. Dates and access information come from the relevant official park pages. Park programmes can change.
