FREE 13-LESSON WORKSHOP
Do not just play “a zombie.” Build a character you can actually perform.
This workshop takes you step by step through origin, character, costume, makeup, body language, movement, voice, horror dramaturgy and scare acting. By the end, you have a zombie character you can repeat, rehearse and perform for an audience.

Want to play a zombie right now?
No lore and no long preparation: the Zombie Quick Start gives you six simple decisions and a 60-second challenge. If you want to go deeper afterwards, return here and follow the full path.
What you will have built by the end
Character & look
Origin, rules, former life, character, costume, decay, makeup and wounds all tell the same story.
Performance
Posture, gaze, gait, rhythm, voice and sound create a repeatable physical and acoustic signature.
Horror & audience
You stage a scene, shape its horror effect and respond to real visitors without losing the rules of the character.
Your learning path in four phases
You can work through the course in order or jump straight to the phase you need. For a fully developed character, follow phases 1 to 4.
Phase 1 · Build the character
Why not begin with groaning and shambling? Because a strong performance needs rules. In the first four lessons you decide what your zombie is, what happened to them and what remains of the person they used to be.
01 · ORIGIN
The History of Zombies
Understand where the zombie myth comes from and which ideas still shape the genre today.
02 · ARCHETYPES
Zombie Types in Film, Anime, Manga, Comics and Games
Compare slow undead, raging infected and other variants as inspiration rather than templates.
03 · RULES
From Zombie Type to Original Rules
Build a small rule set from origin, mechanism, perception, response and a clear limit.
04 · CHARACTER
Create a Zombie Character
Give the figure a former life, turning point, memory fragment and personal prop.
Phase 2 · Make the zombie visible
Now translate story into appearance. Clothing, wear, silhouette, skin, wounds and fake blood should not merely look “zombie-like.” They should show what happened to this specific person.
05 · COSTUME
Make Your Own Zombie Costume
Plan base clothing, damage, decay and silhouette with your own damage map.
06 · MAKEUP
Create Zombie Makeup
Work from skin state and focal wound through fake blood to a performance-light test.
Phase 3 · Bring the zombie to life
The look becomes a performance. Build a physical signature, put it into motion and add a voice that follows the same rules.
07 · BODY
Act Like a Zombie
Develop posture, hands, facial expression and gaze into recognisable body language.
08 · MOVEMENT
Learn Zombie Movement
Build gait, rhythm, direction changes and transformation so they remain safe and repeatable.
09 · VOICE
Develop Zombie Sounds
Combine breath, sounds, speech fragments and silence into your own acoustic signature.
Phase 4 · Put the zombie in front of an audience
Now the character becomes an experience. Place it in a space, choose the horror effect deliberately, respond to real people and bring everything together in a final performance.
For general scare acting beyond the zombie character, continue with 5 Scare Techniques and Read Visitors.
10 · SCENE
Stage a Zombie Scene
Plan props, four spatial zones, routes and horde roles for a playable scene.
11 · HORROR EFFECT
Stage Zombie Horror
Decide whether the scene creates fear of infection, disgust, loss of control or lost humanity.
12 · IMPROVISATION
Zombie Scare Acting
Respond to laughter, cameras, speech and unexpected behaviour without losing the character’s rules.
13 · FINAL PROJECT
Rehearse a Zombie Performance
Bring every workshop element into one complete performance and document it in your zombie file.
Your goal: a complete zombie performance
After lesson 13 you have not simply collected tricks. You have built a character with its own logic, story, appearance, movement, sound, horror dramaturgy and audience response – and you know how to rehearse it under control.
